Autumn Hunters vs Inglorious Batters :
Game 1: Hunters 15 – Inglorious Batters 14
Autumn Hunters:
In a DH that matched up two old veteran rival coaches and friends, the DH did not disappoint with two extremely competitive games. The Autumn Hunter’s escaped with a 15-14 win in a back and forth game against a well coached Batter’s squad. Defense was key for the Hunter’s as we threw a guy out at home as Steve “Veschy” Veschemoet fired the ball to SS Joe Beham who threw a one hop strike to the cagey veteran and oldest player in the Fall League, Mike Betley at the plate for an out. Then in the top of the 7th inning with one out and the Hunter’s up one but the Batters threatening with a man at 1st and 2nd, Jim “Witt” Wittcamp fielded a smash at 1b, tagged the runner maybe by a smidge or maybe not and stepped on first base for the game ending DP. It was a tough call, Whitt thought he might have caught shirt sleeve, but the Batter’s not sure but the ump called him out so we had to stay with the call on the field with no definitive evidence to the contrary . Hitting leaders Scott Pratt 4-4 with 2 OTFHR and a 2b; Aaron Young 3-4 wuth a 2b; Steve “Veschy” Veschemoet 4-4 with two doubles; Mike Lazarek (battling through a weeklong illness) 3-4 with a 2b; Scott Resiser 2-4 with an OTFHR; Nike “Frog” Thompson 3-3; Jim “Witt” Wittcamp 2-3 with a 2b; Joe Beham 2-4. Good win over a tough squad.

Game 2: Hunters 20 – Inglorious Batters 18
Autumn Hunters:
The nightcap was another back and forth affair and barnburner with the Hunter’s once again surviving and coming out on top 20-17. The Autumn Hunter’s and Inglorious Batters traded big innings and the Hunter’s put up 4 big runs in the 7th to take a 6 run lead. However, we knew the Batter’s would make some noise and boy did they as they scored 3 runs and had the bases loaded with no one out when a ball was hit to SS Joe Beham who tagged the runner going to 3b and flipped to Frog at 2b for a huge DP. The next batter grounded out to end the game. Scotty “Too Hotty ” Dheel came through big, first with three defensive plays at 2b including catching a pop fly off his chest , and then a huge two out bases clearing double in the 7th inning to plate what proved to be the winning runs. Hitting Leaders: Aaron Young 4-4 with two ISTPHR; Scott Reiser 3-4 with an OTFHR; Joe Beham 3-4 with a 3b; Scott Pratt 3-4; Steve “Veschy” Veschemoet 2-3 with a 2b and sac fly; Mike Lazarek 2-3 with a walk; Mike “Frog” Thompson 2-4; Jim “Witt” Wittcamp 2-3; Scotty “Too Hotty” Dheel 2-4 and Jey Whitney added a huge single in the 7th inning. Two tough games and two tough wins.

Renegades vs Old Pols:
Game 1: Renegades 21 – Old Pols 13
Renegades: Kaminski had his team ready to play, as the Renegades only led 5-3 and 14-11, before we pulled away late for a good win. Mike Hamann threw a great game, and hasn’t issued any walks since week 1, while getting 2 strikeouts tonight. Defensively, a few shaky innings kept the game close, but we tightened things up eventually and played solidly, especially Buehrer (2b), Hofer (3b), and Jerry Miller (1b). Hutchison and MJ anchored the OF, with Strobel and Nichols making key plays in support. At the plate, Strobel (HR, 2 3b), Denny Miller (2 2b), and MJ (2b, 3b) went 4/4, Jerry Miller added a HR and a sac fly as part of a 2/3 game, Nichols (2b) and Hutchison were 3/4, and Kennedy, Hofer (3b), Schmidt, and Kristoff all added 2 hits.
Old Pols:
Game 2: Renegades 17 – Old Pols 2
Renegades: The second game started slow, as we were shut out in the first inning, but then scored 5-5-5-2 to close out the shortened win. Defense behind Hamann was again solid, with Kennedy moving to the grass and Nichols playing MI (and helping turn a couple of DPs). The team batted .850, with Hutchison, Hofer, and Strobel hitting triples. The second half our lineup didn’t make an out, going 12-12 – Nice job, guys! On to the big showdown next week!
