LEGENDS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
ROOSTERS (15) - FRICKER'S 3 (8): Roosters Men’s Grooming Center - In the league championship game, the Men of Roosters stuck to their season-long, proven script of great defense and pitching, along with timely hitting. The game was tightly contested the entire way, when finally in the top of the seventh inning the Monsters of Monroe Street batted around in the line-up to provide the winning margin. The seventh inning was highlighted by Bob Collins key two-run triple and Javier “Amazing” Almanza’s back-crushing, towering two-run OTF home run. The offense was led by Jose “The Cycle” Mondragon’s four hits (including three doubles) and Javier Almanza (almost hit for The Cycle) and Greg Ballmer with three hits each. The fine Roosters defense turned three double-plays and made several great catches in the outfield.
It was a great ending, to a great regular season and now onto the playoffs. This special group of men are not only very good athletes, but also intelligent and hysterical characters that kept the team loose all year long. The Men of Roosters are: Scott Gist, Bob Collins, Jose Mondragon, Javier Almanza, Greg Ballmer, Hider Hilou, Kevin Koepfer, Larry Gagin, Tom Hosinski, Jeff Szenderski, Mike Hamann, Dave Williams and Phil Franklin. Congratulations Champions!!!
Fricker's 3 - Congratulations to Roosters for a great season. After taking a 4 to 3 first inning lead Frickers 3 could not answer the 7 runs Roosters put up in the top of the 7th.

MASTERS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
SHAWN'S IRISH TAVERN (10) - ANDY & BARNEY'S (9): Shawn's Irish Tavern - The Eastern Division leader met Western Division leader Andy & Barney’s for the 58+ league championship. In true fashion of teams that were both closely matched and filled with high intensity players, a nail biter was played but not decided until the bottom half of the last inning. The score was 3-1 after 3 innings with both teams unable to score in two of those innings. Don Dheel and Jerry Keefe were pitching brilliantly. Shawn’s put up 3 runs in the 4th, but A&B responded with 5 in the 5th to regain the lead 7-6. Shawn’s offense sputtered and did not score in the 5th and 6th, while A&B picked up 1 run in each of those innings to take a 9-6 lead into the last of the 7th. Shawn’s had won 9 games out of 17 this year by scoring the winning run(s) in the last inning. Being down was not unfamiliar territory. The top of the order came to bat with Jim Dandar doubling, followed by Jim Dunlavy’s double, John Johnson’s single, Larry Gagin’s double, and an intentional pass to Rick Schmidt to set up a force out situation with A&B clinging to a one run lead. Third basemen Rob Ravin responded by ripping a shot to left plating the tying and winning runs. Once again, a team effort kept Shawn’s in the game as we played without a middle infielder. The defensive moves of right fielder Bill Baldwin, 2nd baseman Dwaine Nemire, and catcher Mark Goodremont contributed just as much as the offensive moves by Gagin 4-4, Dheel 3-3, and Dandar’s ISTP home run. Chuck Strzesynski could only ump and lead the raucous crowd in cheers as he was on injured reserve. Teammate Jim Walsh had civic duties to perform and was unable to make the game. Shawn’s ended the regular season at 14-2.
ANDY & BARNEY'S SPORTS BAR - Winners of the East & West Divisions paired off in "the" game for the Masters' League Championship on August 5. Shawn's scored four runs in the bottom of the 7th to win 10-9. "A heart-breaker", moaned one player. Jon LaBeau was outstanding at SS, running, with his back into the outfield, to make several fine, over his shoulder catches. The defense, as usual was excellent. But, A&B couldn't get the clutch hits to score runs: nineteen hits produced only nine runs.Tim Kuszmaul and Jon Labeau were 3/3.
ANDY & BARNEY'S SPORTS BAR won the League's West Division with a 13-3 record. In the single-game playoff they lost to Shawn's Irish Tavern 10-9. Back row, from left, Tim Kuszmaul, Bill Garber, Chuck McMillen, Roy Woodworth, Tom Taylor, Jon LaBeau & William Cox. Front row, from left, Jim VanBrandt, Jim Vail, Jerry Keefe, Dann Schlembaker & Charles Feltman.
