In the final Tournament game we were up against an always talented A&B. The score was tied 2-2 after 2 then the bats got hot and we unloaded with 5 runs in the 4th and 5th and then going on to win with score 18-6. There were some great defensive plays like Tom SPY (2/3) catching a foul tip with his bare hand (it’s almost as big as a glove) and Tom MacNAUGHTON (2/3) with an incredible catch in left center to stop an A&B rally. Doug QUINT (3/4) also had a great catch in right in the 5th to stop their momentum. Hitting highlights go to Neal KLOPPING (3/4 3B), Jim Nickelsen (3/4 3B), Bill GARBER (2/4), Marty CZERNIAKOWSKI (2/3 2B), John KUSCHELL (3/3) and Darrell SMOCK, Don DHEEL and Roger KINNERSLEY laced singles. A special thanks Mark VONDEREMBSE (1/3 2B) who came off the injured reserve list to play. Don Dheel pitched another stellar performance.
It’s been an incredible season, losing the first 2 games then going 17-1, winning the League and Tournament took some luck but most importantly it was a great bunch of guys that put the team first, were willing to change positions and never quit. The dugout was always upbeat and encouraging words were spoken when we were behind. What a way to end the season.
