Founded in 2010, the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball
Teamâ„¢ (WWAST) is a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
WWAST gives Wounded Warrior athletes the opportunity to
compete and serve our country beyond the battlefield,
inspiring their fellow countrymen to overcome any
challenge.
The team is comprised of veteran and active duty servicemen who served our country. They now travel the country playing able-bodied teams in celebrity and exhibition softball games, bringing their special brand of softball, courage, and inspiration.

TPD/COACH Greg Zattau greets USA Patriots Saul Monroy. For the first time
in four different tournaments, over a period of ten years, the TPD came away a winner. Sergeant
(retired) Monroy has been awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Achievement Medal,
Combat Action Ribbon, plus many others. He served in Afghanistan.

U.S ARMY COLONEL (retired) Ben Mitchell, #1, was nearly killed by
friendly fire, that resulted in in the amputation of his lower right leg.
He has served the Nation for 24 years and was awarded the Legion of Merit.

KIDS CAMP ALUMNI Scotty Fura, Jr., left, lost his right arm in a lawn mower accident
in 2005. He joined the team in 2011. He works as a mentor at the Kids Camps and
plans to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. Manny Del Rio, right, enlisted in the Navy
in 2004 and was working on the Flight Deck of the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier, when a jet
that was being towed rolled over both of his legs, rendering him a below the knee Amputee.
