Head Coach Joe
Abraham Enters 4th
Season at UT!
Rockets set 2021 offensive records!
Joe Abraham enters his fourth season
as the head coach of the Toledo softball
program in 2022 after taking over at
the Rockets’ helm prior to the 2019 season.
Returning to the field for the first
time since the 2020 was abruptly shuttered
due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
Abraham guided the Rockets to a 31-22
overall record, including a 21-16 mark in
MAC play, good for fourth place. Toledo
set school records as a team for batting
average (.299), on-base percentage
(.375), slugging percentage (.426), runs
scored (276) and
RBIs (243). The
Rockets were
paced by Danya
Denner, who
was named the
MAC Player of
the Year and
to the All-MAC
First Team following
the 2021
campaign. Leah
Munson was selected to the All-MAC
Defensive Team.
Abraham’s first year with the Rockets
proved to be a success, as the team won
its first MAC Tournament title in program
history to advance to the NCAA Championships
for the first time since 1992.
Toledo registered a 29-28 overall record,
with 10 wins coming in conference play.
The team saw five
athletes selected to
all-conference teams. Senior Kaitlyn
Bergman earned first team honors, while
Megan Choate, Katie Cozy, and Erin Hunt
earned second team accolades. Aubrey
Reed was named to the All-Freshman
Team. Cozy was also named to the NFCA
Great Lakes Region Second Team.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Abraham
graduated from Ohio State University
with a bachelor’s degree in print journalism
and political science. He went on
to Capital University Law School, where
he graduated cum laude in 1996, practicing
law from 1996-2008.
