Fricker's #3 defeats Allshred Services
17-16 in extra- inning slug-fest

FRICKER'S #3 (17) - ALLSHRED SERVICES (16):
FRICKER'S #3 - In the finals against the powerful attack of Allshred, Frickers 3 knew it couldn't let the game get out of hand as the Shredders went up 5-0 through twoinnings. In the third, Doug Quint got Frickers started after hits from Phil Franklin and  Tim Kuszmaul. Then, with two outs, Marty Harrison hit a three-run OTF HR, followed by a double from Bob Huffman and one of RickElrod's seven hits of the night for a five-run inning that tied things up for a short time. The bottom of the third had Allshred going back on top by three. The fouth was led off Bill Garber and Joe Bondy getting hits, then after two ugly foul balls, Quint hit one to the fence in right-center for a big, three-run inside-the-parker. In the fifth, a leadoff out followed by a double by Harrison, triple from Huffman, and singles by Elrod, Garber, Bondy, Randy Bores and Quint put Frickers up by 5. Then the wheels started to fall off,  Bob Miller getting his arm jammed catching a wide throw for a big out, Bores almost getting his head taken off from a laser up the middle, six players needing pinch runners and not scoring in the sixth or seventh innings. Allshred was coming back, only heads-up play by Bores and Franklin getting the winning run in a rundown for the third out at third base saved the game and sent it into extra innings. A four-run eighth capped by a big two-out double from Craig Mantey still almost was not enough. Allshred came back hitting the ball hard and Frickers failed to make a few plays that put the tying run in scoring position and the winner on base with two outs. But a sinking liner was snagged by Mantey in the right-center-field gap and he came up with the ball and a big smile after a rough night. Game over!  A 17-16 nail-biting win! We were not the best team on paper but we just clicked, had fun, some luck and laughed a lot. Thanks to everyone and let's play like kids again next year.

ALLSHRED SERVICES - Both teams looked sluggished after their semi final wins, with Fricker's #3 holding on to a 17 - 16 eight inning final. The Shredders took an early 5 - 0  lead, only to see it disappear as Frickers went up 13 to 10 after five innings. The Shredders then tied the game up in the bottom of the 7th, with Fricker's #3 scoring four times in the top of the 8th. The Shredders would not give up, scoring 3 times with 2 outs in the botton of the inning. With two on and two out, Frickers#3 outfield made a great catch to rob a game tying hit and ending the game. Offensive leaders for the Shredders were Hendee 3 for 4, OTF HR, Giles 2 for 3, OTF HR, Bruss 4 for 5, Sanders 3 for 4, Miller 3 for 4 and Collins 2 for 4, HR, 4 RBI's.

Stager powers Frickers' to win

With the temperature in the mid 50's and the wind blowing briskly, the game started off with Wheelock at the bat, scoring 2 runs before giving up the bats.  Fricker's left off last week with hot bats and started out again, Bill Trego gets a hit, and Rick Stager hits one over the fence, against the wind, scoring 2 runs.  Wheelock scores 1 in the 2nd, holding Fricker's to none, but leaving bases loaded before getting the 3rd out.  Wheelock comes right back scoring 3 more runs in the 3rd, while Fricker's scores 1 and strands 2 on base, making the score 6 - 3, Wheelocks.  The leading team comes right back in the 4th with the bottom third of the order scoring 3 more before retiring to the outfield.  Fricker's, also batting the bottom third isn't going to take that lying down and evens the inning, scoring 3 as well.  The 5th inning cools down the bats on both sides, neither team scoring.  Wheelock leaves 1 on in the 6th, staying scoreless again, while Fricker's bottom comes up again, Joel Scheinback gets a hit to get on base, next Wheelock gets 2 outs.  The lead off batter, Mike Nidek gets on with an error, scoring Joel.  Bill Trego gets a hit when Rick Stager steps up to hit an inside the park homerun to pull Fricker's ahead 10 - 9.  The 7th inning retires Wheelock's team with 3 up/3 down, and Fricker's takes the trophy committing only 4 errors throughout the game.  Bill Wiseman did a good job pitching in the absence of Fred Leonard, allowing no walks.  All but 1 player were able to get at least one hit and the whole team did a great job in defense.  John Buehler lead the team throughout the season with a 652 batting average, followed by Rick Stager with a 565 batting average. Five guys tied with a 500 batting average, including Fred Leonard, Joel Sceinback, Bill Trego, Duane Nemire, and Roy Koschalk.  Missing through injury were Steve Mattin and Joe Stchschulte, while Paul Pierce and Fred Leonard were unable to attend.  Congratulations to sticking it out and coming out on top!
