BRUCE ANDERSON
Head Coach

Bruce was born and raised in Flint, Mich., where he attended Kearsley H.S. He played in all four sports: football, baseball, basketball and track. At Hillsdale College he majored in Mathematics, with minors in Physics and Physical Education. He played football, basketball and baseball and was a Captain in all three at various times. Bruce retired after teaching at Kearsley, Whitmer and Cental. He played fast-pitch softball for years and then turned to slow-pitch. He was one of the original founders of the SSS league and served on the Board for three years.

Sylvania '70's team finishes 4-0 at Thee Buckeye Classic!

BARBERTON, OHIO - The Sylvania '70's team finished second in Thee Buckeye Classic, June 11-13. Jim Burnor sets pace with team-leading .923 BA !

The Sylvania '70's Tournament team, coached by Bruce Anderson, finished second in Thee Buckeye Classic senior softball tournament. The Dorchester Canadians (3-1, 2-0) were declared champs; tie-breaker runs allowed stats. The Sylvania squad was (4-0, 2-0), runner-up. The finals were cancelled, due to rain. The Sylvania team hit a blistering .692 as a team. Jim Burnor led the team hitting .923, 12-13. Batting honors: Bruce Anderson, 10-12, .833 BA, Arvell Waddell, 8-10, .800 BA, Paul Pierce, 7-9, .778 BA, and Don Toric, 10-13, .769 BA. No one on the team batted under .500!

GAME #1

SYLVANIA 12, MICHIGAN SPIRIT 9
Jim Burnor and Bruce Anderson led the pack going 3-3. Arvell Waddell and Don Lange chipped in with two hits each. Jerry Haniak and Anderson had a 3b to lead the attack. Good defense was a key in this game.

GAME #2

SYLVANIA 19, INDIANA 4
Jerry Keefe threw 4-innings of shutout ball as the Sylvania squad banged out 24-hits, scoring 19 runs. Jim VanBrandt 3/3, Bruce Anderson 2/2, Arvell Waddell 2/2, Pat O'Boyle 3/3 and Bob Vensel 3/3 were on a tear to lead the hit parade.

GAME #3

SYLVANIA 12, AKRON RAINBOWS 11
The Sylvania seniors were down 11-8 in the bottom of the 7th inning. Jerry Haniak, Bruce Anderson and Jim Burnor singled, loading the bases. Pat O'Boyle singled, driving in two runs. With the team down one run, needing two to win, Kent Lincoln drove the first pitch to right, plating two runs for a 12-11 victory.

GAME #4

SYLVANIA 23, MISSISSAUGA 16
The bats came alive as the Sylvania men scored 5 runs in four different innings to defeat a good team from Canada 23-16. Don Toric, Jerry Haniak and Jim Burnor had four hits each to lead the team in a 38-hit attack.

MVP AWARDS! Player/coach Bruce Anderson, left, received the MVP Offensive Award, a travel bag. Shortstop Don Lange received a glove as his prize for earning the Defensive MVP Award. The pair led the '70's tournament team to victory in the Big Cat SPA Classic held at Parma, Ohio April 30 - May 1.

SSS players' take 4th place in National Senior Games
